Application criteria · IND-B

Lighting decisions change with the work being seen

Commercial interiors require more than a generic lumen target. Opple frames each application through viewing direction, visual comfort, color response, control zones, maintenance conditions and the evidence a project team must review.

Six environments, six distinct review lenses

01

Office

Screen work and collaboration areas call for controlled luminance, UGR context, vertical light and daylight-responsive zones that remain understandable to occupants.

02

Education

Teaching walls, desks and flexible room modes need legible scene control, good facial modelling and maintainable ceiling systems.

03

Healthcare

Clinical tasks, observation and patient rest require careful color, low-distraction dimming and access planning around continuous operations.

04

Retail

Beam control, vertical emphasis and TM-30 context help merchandising teams balance product appearance with efficient ambient lighting.

05

Hospitality

Layered ambient, accent and decorative light depends on stable low-end dimming, warm CCT choices and scenes matched to changing use.

06

Public Space

Circulation, orientation and extended operating hours place emphasis on uniformity, emergency coordination, robust controls and service access.

Questions that keep application claims measurable

What is the visual task?

State the plane, viewing direction and user need before assigning illuminance, uniformity or glare criteria. A horizontal desk grid cannot stand in for facial modelling, shelving or a clinical examination surface.

What changes over time?

Map daylight, occupancy, room modes and cleaning or relamping access to the control and maintenance strategy. Centralized control gives consistent policy, while distributed control can simplify local changes and fault isolation; the right architecture depends on operational ownership.

What evidence closes review?

Pair calculations with exact photometric files, product data and regional compliance documentation for the selected configuration. Treat IP, IK, ambient limits and emergency behavior as separate checks because a candela distribution does not establish environmental suitability.

Translate the application brief into an optical review

Provide plans, surfaces, target criteria and operating patterns. The response will identify the distributions, files and control questions worth testing.
